The Jackpot!

Did liberal groups just hit the jackpot? I believe so...various groups like Planned Parenthood, International abortion groups, Acorn, and many, many others have all been told they will receive millions and billions of dollars from the 'stimulus package'. Nice job Democrats, seize the power and reward your constituents with as much of our money as you possibly can. That way you will always remain in control and you can enjoy exactly what it is you are proposing...socialism. One word of warning; socialism has failed everwhere it has been tried, and it will fail again. I'm just sorry that you will ruin America in the process.

While funding overseas abortion groups is wrong, establishments like Planned Parenthood and NOW have deserved more funding for a long time. If kids can't get this "talk" from their parents, wouldn't it be better to learn from a professional organization as compared to locker room gossip?

Is it fair to say that only offering to teach "abstinence only" in schools has, in fact, probably attributed to some of the unwanted teen pregnancies and, therefore, the need for the increase in funds for the free clinics? Teen pregnancies lowered significantly in California once safe sex was offered as an alternative in their health courses. Should the youth of America have been taught in the first place what to do in said situation (general hormonal stupidity not withstanding), abortion clinics would most likely have remained an obscure taboo and this stimulus package may well have been invested in education as a whole, as compared to these groups.

While it may be part of the liberal agenda to have sex be less of a taboo, this is an issue on both sides of the aisle. Bush invested government money into starting Abstinence clubs in schools across the country. Considering the rise in "alternative sex" among the youth of the nation, I would say the plan failed. Pushing abstinence or even safe sex on any already prone-to-rebellion teen will simply make things worse. Teens are stupid when it comes to hormones, plain and simple. But offering the education, the option, that places like Planned Parenthood and NOW have been offering is better than not having the option to be educated at all. Knowledge is power (and fewer dumpster babies)!

You are assuming that parents don't talk to their kids, and that government (and government organizations) can do a better job at raising our children than we can. That is scary and it's wrong. Government is not the panacea you seem to believe it is. Parents do need to take more responsibility and get government out of the picture all together.

I totally agree! While the government shouldn't have anything to do with this, you can't control how, or what (I'd say this is kind of a big necessity), people are going to teach their kids. Since a lot of parents are either too uncomfortable to talk to their kids about sex, or they do a completely backwards job of it, and a lot of kids are reaching puberty now before they can take a Health class, there should still be someplace open in order to get information.

I ended up having to get my sex talk from my fifth grade teacher because I thought I was dying and my mother just spouted off some religious bull. Eventually, her sex talk culminated with me being a "lock" and some guy 'picked especially for you' being a "key", I would say Planned Parenthood is definitely a good thing, at least from my own experience.
